My Hero

A face only a mother could love

Many of you have met my crazy dog Harley. I got him at Petsmart for a whopping $25. 5 years later he has cost me thousands of dollars in vet bills, ruined shoes, pet deposits, and of course medical bills in the infamous "biting the kid's butt" incident. Well, now all I can say is "thank God for Harley".

Harley stayed at my parents Saturday night while we were celebrating Austin's bday. Harley started going crazy in the middle of the night crying and barking and, in the word's of my mother, she was ready to "kill that dog". She went to let him out and didn't find him standing near the door and followed his cries and barks to the bathroom where she found Harley standing over my dad who collapsed on the bathroom floor.

Bob is currently in the hospital and we are hoping to have him home tomorrow. He has a lung infection and there are some heart concerns but the doctor said he should recover soon. People always give me such a hard time about this dog, but it is so incredible how intuitive and protective Harley can be. Harley was at the right place at the right time. My little Lassie! This little guy gets an ice cream cone!

Prayers for Bob please! We'll take all we can get. So thankful for God's healing power and for man's best friend.

Vegas Baby!

This past weekend, Megan and I surprised Bobby and Austin with a quick weekend getaway to VEGAS BABY! Thursday night we took the guys to dinner at Taco Diner just to "hang out and catch up". Little did they know we were about to surprise them with their 30th birthday present. I made these fake plane tickets and handed them to the guys. It took them a second to realize they were going to the real Las Vegas and not some Vegas themed party. I did it! I kept a secret for a whole year! Phew.

They were so shocked!

Time to go home and pack...quickly

Day one: Drinks in the Palazzo

Saturday: Birthday dinner at Lavo

My Day with a 4 Yr Old

It's Spring Break! And what is this crazy kid doing? Not much of anything. :( I've honestly needed the rest but looking back at my past spring breaks, this is definitely one of the more "tamer" ones.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Miss Abigail Katherine Chambers at the gender reveal party. Even though I thought she was a boy (see my blue shirt), I brought along my pink scarf and ruffly clothes just in case. Yea for girls! Cannot wait to meet this little muffin!

Then on Wednesday, I spent the day watching my adorable 4 yr old neighbor, Jake. He is the most precocious little boy! The fun started at 7am and didn't stop until he left. So what's a day like with a 4 yr old boy?

After morning cartoons and Lucky Charms, we made cement stones for the garden
Then we built a fort
Jake found Austin's headgear light

Enough fort time. Sidewalk chalk!

After lunch we painted

I had such a fun day but I am beat! Kudos to all those stay at home moms out there. I think tomorrow I'll wake up around 9am, have lunch with friends, and then celebrate St.Patty's Day with Austin. Now that sounds more like Spring Break.

This week on "The Husband"

If you know me at all, you know I l-o-v-e LOVE "The Bachelor". Stacey and I get together and watch it every Monday and the boys usually tune in with us (even though they say they're just eating dinner and hanging out. They secretly love it!) Austin always adds his two cents in on the drama and his favorite thing to do is call everybody by their first name and last initial like they do on the show. Random I know. I'm sure us watching it is ruining brain cells but it is such a guilty pleasure.

This weekend, Austin planned a fun date for Saturday. I had Saturday School but before I left he told me to go look on our door step. There was my "date card". Hilarious! It read just like a Bachelor date card with a cheesy mystery message about what we'll be doing that day. Ha! So fun!

After school got out, I got dressed and he surprised me by heading to an authentic family run Italian market called Jimmy's. You must try it! We grabbed the best sandwich I've ever had and he had a picnic basket all set up. We took our basket and sandwiches to the Dallas Arboretum and enjoyed the gorgeous day. After having Jimmy's, wine, and girl scout cookies on the lawn of the amphitheater, we went shopping at Northpark and then had dinner at Blue Fish. It was one of the best days!

In the end, I got "the rose". Or in this case, the roses. Honestly, the most fun and funniest dates I've been on in a long time! Thanks Husband Austin. You give Bachelor Brad a serious run for his money!

What's Cookin?

Tonight is all about staying warm and not working too hard to eat something delicious. A staple in our house is Southern Living's Easy Chicken and Dumplings. Enjoy! We did.

Easy Chicken and Dumplings:

1 (32 oz.) low sodium chicken broth
3 cups of shredded cooked chicken
1 can of reduced fat cream of chicken soup
1/4 tsp of poultry seasoning
1 (10 oz. can) refrigerated jumbo buttermilk biscuits
3 celery ribs, diced
2 carrots, diced

Bring first 4 ingredients to boil over med high heat. Cover, reduce to low, and simmer for 5 minutes. Increase heat to med high and return to low boil. Roll out biscuits and cut into 1/2 inch strips. Drop strips, one at a time, into the boiling mixture. Add in carrots and celery, then cover and simmer for 15-20 min. Stir occasionally to prevent the biscuits from sticking. Southern comfort at its best.

It was even so cold tonight that the pups had to bust out their matching sweaters. Thanks Queen!
